Face Of The Day Featuring Current Favourites

The MAC By Request collection is the first one I have been excited about in ages! I can finally say I own Moth Brown! Since I first got in to MAC I have wanted this colour but I refused to pay the extortionate amount on ebay! I picked up all 3 of the eyeshadows and 2 of the lipsticks. This FOTD features Moth Brown with Satin Taupe, these colours really do complement each other!
You can't tell in the photos but I was soooo hungover when I did this look, we went out for dinner as I did not have the energy to cook and thankfully this make up made me look more human!

I am absolutely in love with this lipstick, it's Coral Bliss from the new Cremesheen Pearl range.

MUA Nail Constellation Leo Review

I was really happy when MUA announced on facebook that they were releasing these Nail Constellations, which are a drugstore version of the Ciate Caviar Manicure. They come in 5 different colours and are £3 each. I picked up 3 different colours and the first one I tested out was Leo, which is a gorgeous mix of purple and green. I used it here with Illamasqua's Velocity.

These are pretty easy to apply, just paint 2 coats of chosen polish on the nail and while the second coat is still wet tip up the jar and shake the beads on to the nail, it's best to do this over a bowl so you can collect the excess beads. Then gently push them down so they stick in the polish, be careful not to use too much pressure as you can end up smooshing them about and ruining the effect. You can then remove the lid from the bottle and use it as a funnel to put excess beads back in the jar. I chose not to put a topcoat on as it can dull the beads and changes the finished look. I also only did an accent nail as I think a full manicure would be a bit over the top! Bear in mind these beads are only sitting on the polish so they won't last forever, I have had it on for about 3 hours and none have come off yet but I am sure they will throughout the day so I would say it was best to think of this as a one night manicure! These are available at selected Superdrug stores and from the MUA website.

Face of The Day Featuring Illamasqua Complement Palette and Mini Review

I have to be honest I was in two minds whether to order this palette or not, although the colours instantly called to me I had read a few bad reviews, mainly about the pigmentation but I trusted my instincts and ordered it anyway and I'm really glad I did as it's gorgeous. It's surprisingly wearable considering two of the shadows are darker purples. I wore this in the daytime and obviously you could apply more and make it a darker smokey look for night time but I like the fact that you can control how dark you go! I used primer potion underneath and didn't experience any creasing but I did have some minor fading in the crease after about 10 hours.

Urban Decay Smoked Palette Look 4 - Red Carpet

Here is the 4th look from the Urban Decay Smoked Palette and I have to say that so far this is be far my favourite, it's absolutely gorgeous. It's smokey but wearable, a very classic look. Urban Decay describe it as "A nominee favourite, this smoky look is more pretty than edgy. Wear it for magnetic eyes with Hollywood glamour. It's the perfect eye for your wedding day or anytime you need to be a knockout." Again I haven't lined my waterline as I don't really like it in the daytime but I have followed all the other steps.

Urban Decay Smoked Palette Look 3 - Rock Star

Here is the third look from the Urban Decay Smoked Palette Look Book, the first two looks you can see here and here, this was the one that I couldn't wait to do as purple is my favourite colour and I definitely consider myself a rock chic! Urban Decay describe it as "There's a wanna-be groupie in all of us and this is the makeup she wears...drop-dead gorgeous, sexy and alluring" Again I skipped lining my waterline as I was going out and I didn't want to take my liner with me.

Olympic Themed Nails

I don't know about you but I have been totally caught up with Olympic Fever! I live very near to the Olympic Park and to be honest I was dreading it as I thought it would be chaos but actually it hasn't been too bad and I have loved every minute of watching the games, unfortunately just on the TV but I have tickets to 4 Paralympic events so at least I have that to look forward to.
After all the Gold medals Team GB managed to get over the weekend I was inspired to do some Olympic themed nails. Now these were free handed so are not perfect but I am really happy with the way they turned out.

I really struggled doing my left hand but it turned out okay. I used Illamasqua Propaganda as a base on my thumbs and little fingers and Illamasqua Caress on the other fingers. I then used the 17 Cosmetics Best Of British nail art set to do the Union Jacks and the ribbons for the medals and the Hot Metals nail art set for the gold, silver and bronze medals. These are great kits as the bottles of polish have a really fine striper brush which is perfect for nail art and the best thing is these sets are only £5! They are limited edition so if you see them I definitely recommend picking them up.

If you have done an Olympic themed manicure please leave me your links below as I would love to see them!

Face Of The Day - Sparkly Smokey Bronze

This look was inspired by Tanya Burr's birthday make up video which I'm sure you have already seen, but if not you can find it here. I didn't use exactly the same products as I don't own them all but I found suitable replacements in my stash!
In the area I live we are having lots of Olympic celebrations and I got tickets to a concert so decided to try out this look. I really like how it came out.

It was my Nan's 82nd birthday on Monday so we went out for a family dinner, it was a bit of a hard day as it was also the first anniversary of my Uncles death so obviously Nan was upset, we tried our best to cheer her up and we spoke about happy times. In the end I think she managed to enjoy the day as much as she could.
I went for a gold/bronze eye and pink lip.

Nails Of The Week - Water Marble and Tutorial

Since I posted my water marble nails I have had a few requests to put up a tutorial on how I do it so here it is. This time I decided to go for more pastel colours rather than brights. All the nails look different but I like that effect. Whenever I have the water marble on I always get stopped and asked what my nail polish is and where I went to get it done! The colours I used this time where a base coat of Illamasqua Caress, then alternating dots of Illamasqua Caress, Illamasqua Blow, Illamasqua Smash, Illamasqua Force and Avon Loving Lavender.

On to the tutorial:
Step 1:- Get a bowl that you are not worried about ruining and fill it with water, tap water won't work. I use cooled boiled water but bottled water will work as well if you leave it to get to room temperature.
Step 2:-  Paint a light shade as a base on all nails, this doesn't have to be perfect as you won't be able to see it at the end. Tape of the nail you are going to dip. I use two pieces of sellotape, one across at the base of the nail and then a longer piece which goes along one side over the tip of my finger and down the other side. This helps to stop it being too messy and wasting loads of nail polish remover!
Step 3:- Start alternating drops of polish. This can be trial and error as some polishes just don't work and they sink rather than spreading. If that happens just clear off the surface with a cotton pad and start again.
Step 4:- Keep alternating dots until the polishes seem truer to colour on the surface (when you first start dotting the colours will spread a lot so they would come out really faint.)
Step 5:- Draw your pattern in the polish, you can use many different things to do this, I actually use a screw and it works for me. I have tried using cocktail sticks but it always seems to go wrong for me with them. I don't touch the very outer rings of polish as these tend to dry quickly and can mess it up. I pull from the outside in until I have a pattern I am happy with.
Step 6:- Put your finger nail straight into the polish over the pattern you want. Don't push all the way through just submerge your nail and hold it there.
Step 7:- With your nail still in the water use a cotton bud or cocktail stick and pull away all the excess polish as otherwise this will ruin your design when you pull your nail out of the water. Then remove nail from water.
Step 8:- This is the reason for the tape! As you can see the pattern has transferred on to the nail and also on the sellotape.
Step 9:- Remove the sellotape and you are left with just a little bit of clean up around the edges to do.

Step 10:- Remove any leftover polish from the surface of the water with a cotton pad and then repeat for all ten nails!

Obviously this is just the way I do it, there are many different ways and this s just the way I have found that works for me. If you are feeling brave you can dip 2 fingers at a time but just make sure to grab all excess polish between the fingers as it's easy to ruin the design when you pull them out of the water.

So there you go, that's how I do water marbling. I am going to grab my boyfriend next time and get him to film me doing it. I really hope this has been helpful. If you attempt this please let me know and link your photos or blog posts in the comments.

Nails Of The Week Illamasqua Velocity & Muse French Manicure

I have wanted to try a different coloured French Manicure for ages and finally got round to it. I chose to use Illamasqua Velocity (Dusky purple) and Muse (Teal) both of these colours are incredibly opaque. I used two coats of Velocity all over the nail and waited for that to dry. I then used circle plasters cut in half to create the shape and painted Muse on the tips. I sealed it all with Nails Inc Save The Nail 45 second top coat.
I'm really happy with the way it turned out and am definitely going to try more colour combinations.

Face Of The Day Featuring Mac Impassioned

The sun finally shone at the weekend, you wouldn't know it now though, as I am sat here typing this there is a thunderstorm going on and huge hailstones are bouncing off my window! Anyway as it was a nice day I went for another neutral eye bright lip combo, this time with Mac Impassioned which is such a gorgeous summery colour. And I have to say it lasts incredibly, I didn't need to touch it up at all through the evening, even after eating and drinking. I actually had to remove it before going to bed! I am also trying out the Bourjois 123 foundation, I haven't made my mind up on it yet but when I do I will post a review.

Nails Of The Week - Water Marble Nails With Illamasqua

I have watched so many youtube tutorials on how to water marble, I have tried a couple of times in the past but have always given up after messing up too many times. This time I made sure I had plenty of time to sit down and calmly give it another go and amazingly it worked! Every nail looks completely different but I'm ok with that. I got loads of comments when I was wearing this. I used a selection of Illamasqua polishes, I used Caress as a base coat which you can't even see as the marble covers it up, I then used alternating dots of Collide (bright neon pink), Jo'Mina (Bright Lilac) and Blow (Pastel Yellow). Sorry about the photos, the flash washed the colours out a bit and by the time I noticed I had already removed it, click on the photos to enlarge them and get a better view.

And this is a photo of the mess of tape, cotton buds and pads I was left with afterwards!
Yes it is messy and incredibly time consuming and it does use a lot of polish but personally I think the final result is worth it. I would love to see more water marbling combinations so if you have a favourite one please let me know.

6 Of My Favourite Highlighters

Here are 6 of my favourite highlighters, I have a few more to add to this as I originally did these swatches last summer.

Emphasize is the subtlest highlighter i own, applied lightly it just gives a lovely sheen rather than glitter. This is perfect for when you don't want it to be obvious you have highlighter on but still benefit from the effect of it.
This is a gorgeous creamy golden colour, it's very pigmented so a light hand is required. I also use this an eyeshadow sometimes.
This is just a gorgeous peachy/pink highlight. It's not available at Mac at the moment but Accessorize have a merged blush that is very similar.
I love the Illamasqua Illuminators, they don't contain any glitter at all they just have a gorgeous sheen to them, Odyssey is a gorgeous silvery white that works really well on pale skin.
Poised is a gorgeous pimk highlighter, its similar to Benefit's High Beam but I find it much easier to use and prefer the overall effect.
Shell is a lovely subtle highlighter, I have really built up the swatch here but applied lightly it just gives a beautiful golden sheen.
